Don’t spend money on wasted energy?
A simple home or small business energy check could save you hundreds of dollars each year. That’s hundreds you could be doing something worthwhile with. Once your energy check is complete, it’s a simple four-step process to start saving on your energy costs. According to the Energy Information Administration, Missourians spend an average of $2500 each year on energy-related costs and half of that amount goes for heating and cooling.
My home energy check is not a certified BPI or resnet energy audit. I will perform a very similar inspection though, and with just a few exceptions, the results will still be the same. My energy check will be simple enough for you to understand and your name and address will not be added to another government database. The cost of my energy check and most of the materials needed will still be less than that of a certified home energy audit.
Your home is a system with many parts dependent upon others. These parts are like a machine and all need to work properly for optimal performance. The building envelope should be properly sealed to prevent air and moisture intrusion. The interior areas also need to be sealed in order to minimize energy loss from the stack effect. Your HVAC equipment and distribution system has to be properly maintained for maximum efficiency. If one of these components does not work properly, the entire system does not work properly. In many cases, the gaps and holes we find throughout your home will be the equivalent of leaving a window open the entire year. So let’s close that window TODAY!
Once your home energy check is complete, your report will detail all the areas that need to be corrected. It will then be up to you to complete any improvements that are needed. The primary materials you will need to purchase will consist of caulk, mastic, insulation and spray foam.

We will begin with taking a look at your annual energy usage. This will consist of examining your energy-related bills; electric, natural gas or propane. Once this is completed, you will be able to see the big picture on your energy usages. At this point, we will explore options with your current appliances, lighting fixtures, and other consumer electronics to determine if we can squeeze money from them. Finally, we will take a detailed look at many areas of your home using smoke sticks and infrared thermography to determine hot and cold spots in the home. These areas will include your attic, basement or crawlspace and the living areas.
For small businesses
We can also sit down and examine your operational structure which could prove beneficial to you and your employees. After all the specific areas have been examined, then we will sit down and analyze your energy needs and usage. This portion of the energy check can sometimes be the most revealing. Many of the recommended improvements we may discover can be completed by you or your maintenance staff in a few days.
