Your home is your castle, and if your getting sick more frequently; uncomfortable in certain rooms or anything of that sort, then you want to do something about it fast. We can sit down and prepare a plan of attack, which will include initial and final testing, remediation or mitigation services if required and if necessary, any medical issues can then be properly attended to.
With an IAQ check, we can determine if you have a mold issue. Mold, mildew and other related problems are generally caused from moisture intrusion. Any current or past water leaks, no matter how small in the home can be the culprit for fungi or mold growth.
A radon check is just as important. Radon gas is cannot be seen and is odorless and yet it is the second leading cause of lung cancer next to smoking. The radon check is easy do and mitigation is not a wallet breaking event. In fact, most competent homeowners can install mitigation equipment themselves.
A Termite or Wood Destroying Organism problem can negatively affect the wooden structural members of your home. A WDO check is included with your home inspection and is recommended to be performed again every few years to ensure that the structure of your home is sound. As the saying goes, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”!
Indoor Air Quality Checks
A mold problem in your home will affect everyone differently. In some cases it will be similar to allergic reactions which may include hay fever-type symptoms; such as sneezing, runny nose, red eyes, and skin rash. If you are not sure that you have an issue with mold, here are a few web pages you can visit to learn about the basics of allergens and mold. The EPA Indoor Air Quality pages and the Missouri DHSS Indoor Air Quality pages have very useful information on how to identify the source of your poor indoor air quality.
If you believe you have an issue with mold, they also provide you information about cleanup and prevention methods that you can use. If you are still not sure, please give me a call to schedule an indoor air quality consultation. We then can help you identify the source of your indoor air problem with a moisture check and if needed, air sampling with third party laboratory results. Once the results are completed a remediation plan can begin.
Radon Gas is the second leading cause of Lung Cancer next to smoking. You can visit the EPA Radon and the Missouri DHSS Radon pages to learn more about the hazards that radon poses to your family. A radon check will take about a week to complete. The data gathering is done by charcoal based canisters that must be left in place undisturbed for a maximum of 96 hours. Once the time limit is complete, the canisters are gathered and sent to a third party lab to be evaluated. The results are determined and an email will be sent to me and forwarded t you. I know that this may interfere with your inspection window, but it will give you piece of mind! If the results are above normal, it not the end of the world. Mitigation of radon gas is not that as expensive as the treatment for lung cancer.
Wood Destroying Organisms
Wood is a biological material. If protected from moisture and insect attack, it can last for centuries. On the other hand, the cost nationwide for termite damage alone is over 1 billion dollars each year. If you are not sure what to look for, click on any of the following to find out more information on Pesticides, Termites, Ants, Cockroaches, Wood Peckers or Rodents. If you feel that you have an infestation problem, please give us a call and we can set up an interview and inspection.During your home inspection I will perform a non-invasive Termite check. I will be looking for distinctive signs throughout the home and property for termites and other wood destroying insects. Findings will be reported on form NPMA-33 which is required by most lending institutions. If indications are found, I do not perform control operations. I highly recommend that you have a WDO control company further investigate the areas and eliminate the insects.
